20 Years Ago Today - Wide Right Horror

Posted on January 27, 2011 by BSD Staff Reports

I feel like the Grinch stealing Christmas right now, but would be remiss if I didn’t bring up to unsuspecting Buffalo Bills fans that today (January 27) is the 20th Anniversary of the Scott Norwood wide-right field goal at the end of Super Bowl XXV.

With the Bills trailing the underdog New York Giants, 20-19 with eight seconds left, Norwood came on to attempt the 47-yarder that would give the Bills their first Super Bowl victory.  Unless you’re from another planet or very young with the most protective parents in the world, you already know how it ended.

My apologies to Thurman Thomas, Darryl Talley and all the Bills from this era.  To their credit, the Bills did run off three more AFC Championships consecutively. Of course right now, fans would be pleased with three straight regular season wins.
