Jonny Flynn Is Going All Lebron

  • Posted on October 6, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Here at Buffalo Sports Daily, we love Jonny Flynn. We really do. So much in fact we set up an entire page on our website dedicated to following his NBA career. Flynn is the pride of Western New York; the kid from Niagara Falls who’s made it to the big time. The once high school local phenom was the sixth overall pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer.

Let us underscore that… The Minnesota Timberwolves.

Perhaps Flynn had a moment of forgetfulness regarding what uniform he is now sporting. The hot shot rookie is trying to revitalize a franchise that’s failed to win more than 33 games in four straight seasons. Fans in Minneapolis, at least from what we hear, are desperate to see the team turn around. Make the Wolves a contender again and Flynn becomes the biggest thing there since Prince.. Or Bret Favre.

Women’s Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight, Sweeps Hilbert

  • Posted on October 6, 2009 at 10:05 pm

Buffalo State (12-9) eclipsed its highest single-season win total since 2003 with its 12th victory, defeating visiting Hilbert (2-10), 25-13, 25-23 and 25-11, in a non-conference Tuesday night at the Sports Arena.

Bree McMahon (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) led Buffalo State with a double-double 10 kills and 10 digs and also had five aces. Danielle Aurelio-Clark (Lancaster/Lancaster) dished out 25 assists and served up two aces, and Katelyn Grew (Lackawanna/Mt. Mercy) added eight kills and three blocks.

Buffalo State will next host the University of Rochester and Keuka in a tri-match this Saturday.

Buffalo Bills: Tuesday Bullets & Bits

  • Posted on October 6, 2009 at 5:24 pm
♦ Maybe the Buffalo Bills should start better applying themselves on selecting players early in the draft that’ll actually be on the field come game day.
Over the past three years, the following are the first two Bills taken each season; Donte Whitner/John McCargo (2006), Marshawn Lynch/Paul Posluszny (2007) and Leodis McKelvin/James Hardy (2008).  Shall we commence? McCargo is consistently unhealthy, to the point he’s untradeable (see Indianapolis)… Posluszny is out indefinitely after suffering his second broken arm in two years… McKelvin is out of the season with a broken leg… Whitner is out after thumb surgery, off the heels of a shoulder injury last year… Lynch has suffered a high ankle sprain in his brief career, not to bring up the three-game suspension. Hardy hasn’t played in so long I can’t recall anything about him other than he’s tall.

Terry Zeh Receives Multi-Year Contract Extension

  • Posted on October 6, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Canisius College director of athletics Bill Maher has announced that women’s basketball coach Terry Zeh has received a contract extension through the 2012-13 season.

“From the MAAC Championship during his first season to a Division I record 24 wins and WNIT appearance last season, Terry has taken our women’s basketball program to new levels during his five years as head coach,” Maher said. “Terry’s commitment to our student-athletes and his tireless efforts in recruiting and developing the young women in our program are the key to the success we have had and to the bright future that our women’s basketball program has under his leadership.”
In his five seasons, Zeh has posted a 92-62 record, with the 92 wins ranking second in program history at the Division I level and the .594 winning percentage serving as the program’s best since it went to Division I in 1986. Zeh has led Canisius to its only two Division I postseason appearances, a Division I record 24 wins during the 2008-09 season and a 57-33 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in five years.

The Puck Drops Here

A letter to my one true love:

My friends told me no matter how I feel, this should be done delicately. Go with the “It’s not you, it’s me” angle. Fact is, I think you need to hear the truth.

You’ve treated me like garbage for the last ten years, and lately I’ve pretty much grown to hate you. You flirt with the neighbors and when they reject you, you try even harder to get their attention. I hate the way you’ve teased me. I even hate the way you dress (except for those couple special occasions a year). But what hurts the most is that you simply haven’t put nearly as much effort into this relationship as me.

Buffalo Bills: Week 4 Film Session

  • Posted on October 6, 2009 at 8:44 am

This post is your weekly obligatory look back at the Buffalo Bills’ most recent game on film - in this week’s case, their 38-10 Week 4 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

I hope you’ll forgive me the fact that I couldn’t stomach much of this game on the re-watch.  My sincerest apologies, but I had a delicious dinner last night, and didn’t want to lose it.  After the jump, our film session touches on as many areas as I could get through before my upchuck reflex activated.
