Injuries, Mistakes Waste Owens’ Big Day in 18-15 Loss

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 5:54 pm

Let’s give some credit where its due.  The Buffalo Bills were facing an uphill battle coming into their Sunday contest at Jacksonville with an already insurmountable amount of injuries, and the bug relentlessly took chomps out of three more starters by days end.

They also had less than a full week to prepare following off-field turmoil after the Dick Jauron firing on Tuesday.  Perry Fewell was only named interim coach on Tuesday, so you’ll have to forgive him if every minor detail wasn’t thoroughly covered in less than five days.

But it is what is.  Bad teams find a way to lose games and that’s exactly what the Bills did.  They had two touchdowns called back on penalties.  Fewell and starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick demonstrated deplorable late first half clock management skills, which may or may not have cost them four points.  And they botched a designed two point conversion fake.

Shannon Sharpe on what it takes to land Shanahan

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Unless Perry Fewell can miraculously turn around the franchise over the final seven weeks, the Buffalo Bills are going to be looking for a new head coach, at the very least come January 4, 2010.   With a fan base already incensed, odds are Ralph Wilson finally takes a swing for the fences with the hire.

Among big name free agents already linked to having the Bills interest, Mike Shanahan is a name the team is attracted to.

Shannon Sharpe, another CBS analyst who is still close to Mike Shanahan, who he played for, says the Bills will meet with his former coach this week, but Shanahan will make it clear to him what he’s looking for.

The Unemployed Chef: Sausage Tacos

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 7:31 am

I’m done with talking shit before the game. Look what I did last week.  My predictions are a jinx. This is where I shut up.

As you might recall from this post, I’m admittedly a Jets fan. After last week, I have even more reason to see Jacksonville get destroyed. So I’ll leave it at a simple, “GO BILLS!”

Anyway, I’m sure wherever you’re watching the game is a total sausage-fest. To acknowledge that, this will be my second week in a row of a sausage post. I guess you can say the Unemployed Chef eats a lot of sausage. That’s what she said. Or I said.

Your Bills vs Jags Game Day Preview

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 7:25 am

And so it begins.  Most deemed it long overdue, but regardless of your feelings on  the Dick Jauron tenure, it mercifully concluded this week.  The Perry Fewell era commences, albeit an expected brief one, as the Buffalo Bills travel to Jacksonville to take on the surging Jaguars.

If the odds weren’t already stacked against the Bills defensively, the unit suffers another blow as starting defensive tackle Marcus Stroud will miss the game with a knee injury.  Kyle Williams is questionable, also with a knee injury, meaning Spencer Johnson and John McCargo will see plenty of time.

Leading tackler Keith Ellison was placed on injured reserve with a thigh injury.  Converted safety Bryan Scott will get another start in his place.  Last week Scott was constantly overpowered at the point of attack and although he’s a high-effort playing, playing linebacker may be biting off more than he can chew. Nic Harris should see an increased amount of reps.

Buff State Drops Final in Coles Classic

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 6:00 am

Nazareth (2-1) took over in the second half en route to a 72-61 victory over host Buffalo State (1-1) in the title game of the men’s basketball Coles Classic tonight at the Sports Arena. Marietta (2-1) defeated Pitt-Bradford (1-3), 70-54, in the consolation game.

Buffalo State led by as many as nine points in the early going and clung to a 34-33 lead at the intermission. The lead changed hands several times early in the second half, before the Golden Flyers claimed the lead for good with 6:33 remaining and used an 11-3 run to pull away. Nazareth prevailed despite shooting just 38-percent from the field, including 4 of 22 from 3-point range. Buffalo State shot 40-percent and was 0 for 8 from beyond the arc.

Griffs Hockey Stay Red Hot With Win

  • Posted on November 22, 2009 at 5:57 am

Strong special teams and a school-record third-consecutive shutout helped the Canisius College hockey team extend its unbeaten streak to six games, recording a 4-0 win over host American International on Saturday. With the win, the Griffs improve to 7-6-1 and 6-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey play.

The Griffs are now 5-0-1 in their last six games. The team’s six-game unbeaten streak is their longest since also going six games without a loss during the 2003-04 season.

Senior Andrew Loewen (Winnipeg, Manitoba) recorded 32 saves in net to extend the Griffs’ shutout streak. Canisius has not allowed a goal in its last 187:45 of play.
