The University at Buffalo football team is set to play Bowling Green on Tuesday night at UB Stadium in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2.
“I feel really good about our football team, even though we lost the last ball game,” said head coach Turner Gill. “I feel especially good about our players and how they reacted with mental toughness and physical toughness after the game and during practice this week.”
The Bulls (3-5, 1-3 MAC) are coming off a heart-breaking 34-31 overtime loss to the Western Michigan Broncos.
“We were disappointed, but our guys will be resilient and we’ll come back ready to play another football game,” said Gill. “We had our chances to win the game on offense, defense and special teams, but Western Michigan made more plays than we did.”
The Bulls will be looking to get their season back on track against Bowling Green this Tuesday. The Bulls defense will have to play a flawless game if they want to slow down the Falcons offense.
“We have to eliminate the big plays, if we do that we will have a great shot at winning the game,” said Gill.
The Falcons (3-5, 2-2 MAC) are led by third-year signal caller, Tyler Sheehan, who will be making his 34th consecutive start on Tuesday. Through his first 33 games as a Falcon, he has thrown for 8,743 yards (second-best in school history) and 58 touchdowns. Sheehan and the Falcons are first in the MAC and fourth nationally, averaging 341.4 yards per game through the air and are coming off a month of October, in which they averaged 403.0 passing yards a game. Sheehan’s favorite target is Freddie Barnes who is the nation’s leading receiver. Barnes has 99 catches for 1,054 yards and nine touchdowns on the season.
The Falcons are coming off a 24-10 loss to MAC West Division leader Central Michigan.
Bowling Green leads the all time series, 4-2. Last season, Buffalo erased a 20-point fourth quarter deficit and defeated the Falcons, 40-34, in double-overtime to clinch the MAC East Division crown.
Tuesday’s game will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN2 with kickoff slated for 7:00 pm. The game can also be heard on 1230 AM WECK in Buffalo as well as 1280 AM and 107.3 FM in Rochester.
Tickets are available at the UB ticket office or by calling 1-877-UB-THERE.
