Preparing For High School Hoops Marathon

Posted on December 15, 2009 by Patrick Moran

It’s going to be a busy week of high school basketball in Western New York, and it’s going to be an equally hectic week for us at Buffalo Sports Daily.  Beginning tonight, over the next three nights I’m embarking on an adventure that will see me cover 18 of Western New York’s best basketball teams, highlighted by the top two teams in the region squaring off on Wednesday night.

The three-night slate is full of highly ranked teams, intriguing match ups and some of the best talent the region has to offer.

The Monsignor Martin Association-ECIC Challenge games commences tonight at St. Mary’s of Lancaster high school. It kicks off at 5pm when 7th ranked large school Bishop Timon St. Jude squares off against 4th ranked small school Lackawanna.  Then at 6:45pm, 9th ranked small school Maple Grove faces 3rd ranked large school St. Marys.  The final contest of the evening (8:30pm) features 3rd ranked large school Canisius against 6th ranked large school Williamsville South.

Wednesday promises more exciting action. Cheektowaga plays Niagara Catholic, followed by Holland against host St. Mary’s/Lancaster.

Then the final contest features the game every hoops fan in Western New York has waited for, when #1 Niagara Falls is pitted against #2 Nichols.

Thursday night kicks off Depew versus Cardinal O’Hara, followed by Hamburg and St. Francis and finally Sweet Home (5th among large schools) ends the challenge against St. Joes (8th ranked in large schools).

We’ll be bringing you live updates and detailed game recaps throughout and encourage fans to get out to St. Mary’s of Lancaster high school over the next three nights to check out some incredible high school action.  Each night’s slate of games begin at 5pm.
