The Buffalo Stampede is winless no more.
The Stampede hit the road Saturday night and got their first win of the season, a 124-114 victory over the Maryland Greenhawks in Rockville, Maryland. It’s just the second franchise win for the second-year PBL franchise, which went just 1-19 in its first season last year.
The Stampede were led by Derick Payne with 25 points and 6 rebounds. He’s averaging 23 points per game in four game this season; third-best in the PBL.
Other players in double figures included Andy Robinson with 24 points, Cameron Stanley with 21, Mark Price with 19, and Mike Norwood with 12. Price also added a game-high nine assists. The Stampede shot over 60 percent from 3-point range, going 11 for 19.
Scooter Sherrill led Maryland with 29 points. Derek Mercer chipped in with 22.
Buffalo improved to 1-3 in avenging a 100-85 home loss to Maryland last Sunday. Maryland fell to 1-4.
The Stampede will play their next two games on the road against Rochester January 23 and Puerto Rico the 25th before returning home Saturday, January 30th against Manchester. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Canisius College Koessler Athletic Center, 1833 Main St. Buffalo.
