Doesn’t sound like Gailey wants Tebow early

Posted on March 23, 2010 by Patrick Moran

Tim TebowAFC East ESPN blogger Tim Graham has been a machine over the past 24 hours, turning out Buffalo Bills news and information left and right.  Stationed in Orlando for the NFL Owners meetings, Graham has had chances to speak to both Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey.

This afternoon Graham spoke to Gailey and filed a report on Gailey’s comments on quarterback Tim Tebow.

While people always decipher statements differently, after reading I came away feeling  Gailey doesn’t seem fascinated in selecting Tebow anytime early in the draft.

Gailey told Graham he thinks Tebow has all the intangibles but has concern about his mechanics.

“He’s got every intangible that you’d ever want in a quarterback,” Gailey said. “The bottom line on him is, ‘Is his delivery going to keep him from being able to play? How much work is there to be done yet? If you go with the delivery he had he will really struggle in this league.”

Of course well all know by now that Tebow has spent the past six weeks working on revamping his delivery and all the mechanics that have many scouts and coaches worried.

However, Gailey told Graham that he has yet to look at the tape from Tebow’s recent Pro Day in which he demonstrated what he’s been working on.

New England head coach Bill Bilicheck did. He told Graham that he was impressed.

“I think it’s obvious that within the last six weeks that he’s worked on his mechanics, and they’ve improved, which is a credit to him,” Belichick said to Graham during their interview.”

Gailey also said that he could envision tight end or H-Back as a possible future position for Tebow.

While it’s far from uncommon to coaches and general managers to not want to give any insight away in the month leading up to the draft, if you construe Gailey’s words as sincere as I did, it doesn’t sound like a head coach who’s seriously considering using a second or even third pick on the Florida quarterback.

Of course this is the time of year where coaches and general managers put on their poker faces, so we’ll have to wait and see.

But the quotes are definitely worth sharing if nothing else. Well done, Tim.

If Clausen is gone we will take Tebow in the second round.
