Fantasy Friday: The Impact of the Draft

NFL DRAFT LOGOThe NFL just held its draft last week, but if you’re a fantasy junkie, the REAL draft is only three to four months away!

It’s never too early to compile your big boards, and if you’re reading this, the influx of rookies likely has your draft lists sprouting like cherry blossoms.
Some of you will draft as early as July, but I prefer to wait as long as possible because rookies can be so unpredictable. So naturally, here’s a column predicting their value!

Obviously, you should track them through minicamps and the preseason to see where they fall on depth charts, who looks good, who doesn’t, and who gets hurt. But here are some initial fantasy impressions based on where they landed on draft weekend.

They are listed in the order I have them on my draft board.

Dickey puts on historic performance for Bisons

buffalo bisons logoIt wasn’t a no-hitter. It was better.

In possibly the most dominating performance in Coca-Cola Field history, Bisons’ hurler R.A. Dickey retired a record 27 consecutive batters in a 4-0 masterpiece over the Durham Bulls on Thursday night.

Dickey gave up a single to the first batter he faced and then put the clamps down for a shade under two hours. Needing only 90 pitches, he mowed down the best hitting club in the International League in a complete-game for the ages.

All that stood in the way of Dickey making even more history was an 0-2 knuckleball that just stayed a little two high in the zone. Bulls’ lead-off hitter Fernando Perez went the opposite way with the pitch, poking a single through the right side of the Bisons infield to lead off the game.

It does include undrafted free agents that have officially signed with the club.
