ESPN Report: Bills are indeed interested in Campbell

Posted on April 5, 2010 by Patrick Moran

Late last night after Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins, we immediately put out a post speculating that it shouldn’t take much time for the Buffalo Bills to express interest in restricted free agent quarterback Jason Campbell.

But we never thought reports would emerge this quickly.

According to the ESPN 980 twitter page this morning, the Bills are one of four teams interested in Campbell.

“ESPN 980 has learned the following are interested in Jason Campbell: Buffalo, Carolina, Oakland, Jacksonville.”

We’ll have to wait to see what level of interest Buffalo has, but it’s a move certainly worth exploring.  As we wrote last night, Campbell has mostly gotten a bad rap during his first four years, but if you examine his numbers they’re surprisingly good. He’s completed 61.1% of his passes and tossed 53 touchdowns against 38 interceptions.

Campbell currently carries a first round compensation price tag to acquire him but the Redskins will certainly take less since they’re not going to pay him $3.1 million to be a backup.  How much less they have to take probably depends on how many teams show genuine interest.

Again, we’ll simply suggest staying tuned.
