Days one and two of the NFL draft is in the books and to this point the Buffalo Bills have stood pat, making their first three picks as scheduled without moving up or down the draft board.
So far the 2010 draft has netted running back C.J. Spiller, defensive tackle Terrell Troup and defensive end Alex Carrington.
While the early consensus seems to be all three prospects could contribute and perhaps even start as rookies, its borderline shocking that the team didn’t draft a left tackle or quarterback with the first three selections.
Clearly Buddy Nix didn’t place high value on quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy. As fate would have it both slipped to Buffalo when they were on the clock with the 41st pick, but Nix decided that Troup brought more value to the team. In McCoy’s case he was passed over a second time in the third round when he was still on the board with Buffalo picking at 72, but again the team took a defensive line player instead.
Roger Saffold went off the board to St. Louis with the first pick in round two, but Charles Brown and Vladimir Ducasse were available when Buffalo was on the clock with the 41st pick. Nix decided against a tackle and took Troup. Both tackles finally went off the board at the end of the round.
There’s still some fairly recognizable talent available at several positions headed into round four Saturday morning. The following is a list of available prospects, based on positions that are of perceived need.
Quarterbacks: Tony Pike, Dan LeFevour, Jarrett Brown, John Skelton, Jonathan Crompton
Linebackers: Eric Norwood, Ricky Sapp, Thaddeus Gibson
Wide Receivers: Mike Williams, Marty Gilyard
Offensive tackles: Bruce Campbell, Selvish Capers, Tony Washington, Jason Fox
Tight Ends: Aaron Hernandez, Dorin Dickerson, Dennis Pitta
