Former Buffalo Bill Duke Preston retires

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 4:57 pm

duke-prestonAccording to CBS Sports, former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Duke Preston has retired from the NFL. He must recently played for the Dallas Cowboys.

Preston was a fourth-round pick of the Bills in 2005 after a stellar college career at Illinois.  As a rookie he appeared in every game for Buffalo, starting in one and appearing mostly on special teams.

In 2006 he started eight games and started in 11 during his final year in 2008.  Most fans will remember Preston’s stupidity at the end of the first half in the 2008 season finale against New England.  As the Bills were driving for a late score with no timeouts remaining, Preston got caught up tangling with a Patriots defender.  Failing to realize time was winding down on the clock, Preston didn’t get back to the line in time and the clock expired to end the first half with Buffalo being shut off the scoreboard. They’d go on to lose the game, 13-0.

Aaron Schobel has sold his Orchard Park home

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 3:46 pm

Aaron Schobel Buffalo Sports DailyWhile it doesn’t automatically mean his career in Buffalo is over, I can confirm that Buffalo Bills defensive star Aaron Schobel has sold his Orchard Park home.

The Buffalo News listed the property on their transactions page Monday and I can confirm through a representative at the real estate firm that sold the house that the property belonged to Schobel and has been sold.

According to my source the house was put on the market in late December of 2009 and was purchased and closed on in early April of this year, even though it wasn’t listed in official  transactions until today. The source also said that Schobel hasn’t asked about the availability of any homes in the area to purchase.

Another source very close to Schobel insists that the Buffalo Bill truly still hasn’t decided if he’s going to play again or not in 2010.

“His wife and three kids lived in the Orchard Park home and are moving back to Texas.  If Aaron plays the family is going to stay behind in Texas.”

Rassow racks up lacrosse honors at St. John Fisher

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Erich RassowHard work and passion have allowed Orchard Park’s Erich Rassow to transform into one of the premier faceoff specialists in Division III college lacrosse.

The St. John Fisher College junior and 2007 graduate of Orchard Park was named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week on April 13, in addition to receiving the Empire Eight Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 11.

Rassow, a management major, is Fisher’s primary faceoff man, taking 388 of 450 chances. By winning an incredible 70.1 percent of his faceoffs, his success helped the Cardinals to a 16-2 record this season.

“If your team can get the ball and possess the ball for most of the game and dictate the speed of the game, you have a great advantage in determining the outcome,” Rassow said in a recent interview.

Vegas: Bills least favored to win AFC, most to land Russell

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 10:02 am

Nearly all of the media and even the Buffalo Bills fans think the team contending in 2010 is a long shot.  Las Vegas completely agrees.

Vegas has its 2010 NFL odds out and Buffalo is listed at 120/1 to be crowned Super Bowl XLV champions.  Only the St. Louis Rams are a bigger underdog, listed at 150/1.

The Bills are a 60/1 long shot to win the AFC championship, the least-favored team in the conference.

Indianapolis is the betting pick to win the Super Bowl at 13/2.  Dallas and New Orleans are tied for second at 8 to 1.

In sticking with the Vegas odds theme, has the Bills co-favored with the Arizona Cardinals at 7/ 2 to sign recently released quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

(We’ll bet against that)

My Top Five: Players to get shipped out of Buffalo

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 7:00 am

Tim Connolly(Admitted hot head fan/blogger Joe Pinzone AKA “JoeFromNYC”  would like to see five athletes permanently leave the city of Buffalo.  Many don’t agree with his views–and many times we don’t either.  But hey, we like to spice it up every now and then. )

5) Derek Roy
Honestly, I’ve never understood why so many fans hate Derek Roy. Seriously, the guy plays all 82 games a year. He only costs about $4-million per. He gets you 25-30 goals a season. All I ever hear from fans and media members is that Roy doesn’t play the right way. Whatever the hell that means. I guess the right way is Lindy Ruff’s way. I really think if the fans didn’t like Ruff so much, Roy wouldn’t be such a major punch line when it comes to jokes. Everyone knows the two can’t stand each other.

Now, I do understand the logic of what the “bad” Roy does. He’s a turnover machine. He constantly whines. He has a tendency to dive more so than Greg Louganis. And from what I gathered on the web (they are always right of course) he parties a little too much.

No Deal For Gaither Has Been Made

  • Posted on May 10, 2010 at 6:58 am

Gaither RavensDespite a report from a Buffalo Bills fan website stating otherwise, the team and Baltimore Ravens have not “agreed in principle” to any trade involving Ravens tackle Jared Gaither, and while a deal could still happen, nothing is imminent.

Everyone I’ve spoken with this weekend, a combination of reporters who cover the team(s) and sources of my own,  have said to a man no deal  of any kind has already been made, and if a trade happens it’s much more likely to be closer to the start of training camp.

It’s believed right now that Raven’s general manager Ozzie Newsome is asking a king’s ransom in return for Gaither, who has yet to sign his restricted free agent tender.  While several credible reports floated around confirming the Bills heavy interest in Gaither, it remains to be seen if a deal can be worked out.
