Golf Course Review: South Shore Country Club

  • Posted on June 1, 2010 at 12:12 pm

BSD Golf Course LogoOne of the delightful things about South Shore golf course is that it provides a mixture of challenges and opportunity for golfers of all skill levels. For every hole that has you scratching your head if you fail to make par, there’s another waiting that’ll have you fist pumping if your score matches what the scorecard says it should.

As is the case with most public courses, South Shore has a number of holes that hardly will test how far your game has come along.  But as I’m rapidly learning with most courses where anyone with a set of a clubs and a few bucks in their pocket can play, the trials and tribulations that lie on these greens are as strenuous as the prestigious clubs you must be a member to play at.

Top 20 Bills All-Time Draft Picks: Nate Odomes (#17)

  • Posted on June 1, 2010 at 12:08 pm

Nate Odomes(We’re counting down our list of the best 20 Buffalo Bills draft picks of all-time.  Take note- this is not a rundown of the best 20 players.  Where the player was drafted is often a major factor in determining his value and ranking.  Today is No. 17 our list, Nate Odomes)

Nate Odomes, CB (drafted in second round, 29th overall in 1987)

Headed into his second season as Buffalo Bills general manager in 1987, Bill Polian knew he needed to draft more talented defenders.  The Bills were coming off a 4-12 season the year before; a campgain that saw them surrender 348 points to the opposition.

One of the positions the franchise needed the most help at was cornerback.  Charles Romes’ playing days in Buffalo were coming to an end and with just Derrick Burroughs and Rodney Bellinger in tow; game-changing impact was hardly sitting on the roster.

Marshawn Lynch speaks publicly about Bills

  • Posted on June 1, 2010 at 11:43 am

Marshawn Lynch sat down to talk with the San Francisco Chronicle on television last week.  It serves as evidence they did claim he would show up for OTA’s, as Mike Silver of Yahoo Sports originally reported,  which of course he did not follow through on.

No word on if he plans on showing up for this week’s activities.

Here are some of the highlights:

On when he plans on returning to Buffalo.

“I plan to get there at the end of this week to get back there and get acclimated with my teammates. Get back in the building, man and go show this pretty smile back in Buffalo. Lift up the spirits.”

On how close he came to getting traded and dialogue with Buddy Nix

“We had a conversation about it and they let me know pretty much that that wasn’t going to happen.  From there I took it as, alright I ain’t going anywhere so what is next?  Now I know I’m going to be in Buffalo so my mindset is stay focused on what I got going there and hopefully get this thing going and get some games won.”

Scoreboard Doesnt Affect FC Buffalo Fans In Debut

  • Posted on June 1, 2010 at 7:33 am

FC Buffalo LogoIf you critique the FC Buffalo Blitzers soccer debut this past weekend solely by the scoreboard, you’re going to give it a failing grade.  In its National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) this past Saturday at All-High Stadium, the team was held off the scoreboard in a 3-0 shutout loss to the high powered Erie Admirals, a team that made the league championship game last season.

Buffalo seemed outgun from the opening seconds and were nearly behind just 28 seconds into the game; a rarity for outdoor soccer.  They were down a pair before halftime, never really in the game and finally put out of misery in the 72nd minute.  They didn’t threaten at all in the first half, only did a handful of times in the second and when they did, were shut down by Erie goaltender Danny Mudd.

But for now at least, the real story wasn’t what happened on the playing field.  High level soccer is back in the Queen City and fans who crave the sport are past appreciative.  They’re simply fanatical.

Sabres sign Jacob Lagace

  • Posted on June 1, 2010 at 6:13 am

buffalo sabres logoThe Buffalo Sabres keep adding prospects to the fold, which will make training camp in both Buffalo and Portland very interesting.

With the deadline looming on Tuesday for signing 2008 CHL draftees, the Sabres have signed Jacob Lagace to a three-year entry-level contract.

Lagace, 20, had been mulling over the offer from the Sabres before deciding to sign. If he failed reach an agreement with the Sabres by the deadline, he would have gone back to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for another season as an overager, but that’s a thing of the past now as he’s expected to play Portland this year.
