for March 2011
Two Buffalo Bills players were given contract extensions by the club on Tuesday and it was revealed that a third will be getting a significant pay raise in 2011, assuming there is a 2011 season.
Safety George Wilson and offensive tackle Mansfield Wrotto were both given contract extensions by the organization the club announced. George Wilson said on Twitter that his deal is for three years. Wrotto’s length and the salary for both players have yet to be disclosed.
“I want to let all Bills fans now that today I signed a 3 year contract to return to western NY. Words just can’t explain.” Wilson tweeted.
Wrotto started seven games for Buffalo last season after coming over from Seattle. Wrotto told BuffaloBills.com that “the coaches along with myself see me as an interior player who can also play the tackle position.”

A lot of writers have sources, views and opinions on the Buffalo Bills and as a fan, it’s your right to dissect which ones carry more clout than others. Universally however, I think everyone can agree few if any guys out there carry more weight when it comes to knowledge of the Bills organization than Mark Gaughan of the Buffalo News.
Gaughan has covered the Bills since 1988 and been the paper’s lead Bills beat writer since 1999. He’s as entrenched inside the organization as any media member and clearly he knows a thing or two about the mindset of the team. Therefore, when he offers a strong opinion or specific predictions, people tend to pay more attention.
Fresh off returning from the NFL Combine, Gaughan hosted a live chat on BuffaloNews.com early this afternoon. Right off the bat a reader asked who his gut feeling was on who the Bills will select with the their pick. After listing three players he considers finalists, Gaughan is going with Cam Newton, assuming everything checks out character-wise for the Auburn Heisman Winner.

When the current Canisius senior class set foot on the Buffalo campus four years ago, nearly everyone with any association with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference would have sworn the Griffs would be MAAC champions by the end of their careers.
Well, for the most decorated Canisius recruiting class in last 20 years, their next loss is their last. The Griffs will head to Bridgeport, Conn. this weekend in search of winning three games in three days and grabbing the MAAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
There is some good news. For the first time since 2001, the Griffs played .500 ball in the MAAC and won nine games. For the first time since 1999, they won’t be in the MAAC play-in round on Friday night. They also won 10 home games in a single season for the first time since 1997, but the tournament will obviously not be on their home court.

World Wrestling Entertainment, much better known as the WWE, brought its top rated television show live to the HSBC Arena, Monday Night Raw. If you’re still reading past the first sentence, odds are you were either at the arena for the show, watched it unfold live on television or are incredibly bored. But just in case you happened to forget about it, here’s a brief recap of the biggest thing to hit Buffalo since Meatloaf took the town by storm just days ago.
Triple-H (HHH) came out to start the show and hype his Wrestlemania matchup with the Undertaker. He said his sole purpose left in wrestling is to end the Undertaker’s perfect 18-0 Wrestlemania streak and indicated at the end of his microphone time that if he loses, his career we’ll be over.
Shaemus came out, presumably to remind HHH that he put him on the “shelf” for the past 10+ months. HHH kicked him where I’m sure it’s illegal, before proceeding to pound his head in on the outside of the ring and ultimately, pedigree him through the announce table (and no, there was no Spanish announce table).

Class B1 semifinal – Lackawanna 48, Dunkirk 39
The most anticipated game of the evening pitted undefeated Dunkirk against a Lackawanna team that entered the game with a 12-7 record. The Steelers, who won a Class B state title in 2006, have made a second home out of Buffalo State with several years of consecutive appearances. The Marauders were the complete opposite, coming from relative obscurity in high school basketball circles. However, coming into the game, Dunkirk had won its previous six games by an average margin of 45 points.
The bright lights at Buffalo State quickly blinded the Marauders, who found themselves down 7-0 to Lackawanna. Dunkirk finally got onto the scoreboard at the 4:20 mark of the first quarter, but less than two minutes later, leading scorer Vincent Bomasuto went to the bench with his third personal foul. With their leader on the bench, the Marauders were able to battle back, and took a 14-13 lead in the second quarter on a basket from junior Kevin Holmes. But as the Dunkirk fans rejoiced that their team was finally in front, Lackawanna’s Christian Cheatom came right back down and answered with a score, and Dunkirk would trail the rest of the game.

There hasn’t been a lot of talk and/or reports about college prospects meeting with the Buffalo Bills during the NFL combine, other than quarterback Colin Kaepernick admitting on Twitter he met with the team over the weekend. We can now add another prospect to the Bills meeting list.
Aaron Wilson of Ravens Insider Tweeted late Monday evening that Michigan linebacker Jonas Mouton met with the Bills. Wilson said Mouton has also met with the Eagles, Saints, Chiefs and Chargers.
Mouton is a lower tier prospect many consider a little undersized at 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds. While he was productive in college, he’ll have some red flags to overcome. In his scouting section on the National Football Post website, Wes Bunting describe Mouton as having questionable desire.

Canisius College senior forward Elton Frazier was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Third Team on Monday afternoon. This marks the first time Frazier has been honored for his play by the league’s coaches.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native leads the Golden Griffins and ranks 12th in the MAAC in scoring average and rebounding average with 12.3 points and 6.4 boards per game. He ranks fifth in the MAAC in field goal percentage at 52 percent, and his 1.1 blocks per game in the regular season ranks seventh-best in the league.
“Elton has been our most consistent player all year, and I’m very happy for him to finally see some accolades for all his hard work,” Canisius head coach Tom Parrotta said. “He’s taken his game to a different level this season. He is a lunch-pail kind of guy. He is ready to work hard every day in practice and he leaves it all on the floor come game time.”

Three Purple Eagles were selected to 2010-11 All-MAAC Teams announced on Monday. Men’s basketball guards, senior Anthony Nelson and freshman Marvin Jordan, were named to the All-MAAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team, respectively. Senior Liz Flooks represented the women’s team with a placement on the All-MAAC Third Team.
Nelson earned his first-ever all-conference team award after having one of the best seasons for a Niagara basketball player. Nelson averaged a career-high 15.0 points per game to lead NU in scoring and his 5.0 rpg were a career-best. Nelson rewrote section of the record book this season. He is the first player in school history to have over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 600 assists and 200 steals, recorded the program’s first-ever triple-double, became the all-time career leader in assists and set the single-season steals record. Nelson ranks in the top five in the conference points per game (fifth), assists per game (second), steals per game (first) and minutes per game (second ). Nelson has also gained nation recognition.
