Kate Achter has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach at St. Bonaventure University, Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley announced.

A 2008 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Achter was an All-American point guard for the Falcons.  During her career, Bowling Green won four consecutive Mid-American Conference championships, advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times and won a total of 108 games against only 21 losses.

Achter ranks fourth in Bowling Green women’s basketball history with 1,580 points.  She also is the Falcons’ all-time leader in assists, with 688, and free throws, with 551.

“Kate Achter was the best point guard that I have ever coached against,” Crowley said. “She comes from a basketball family and one of the best women’s basketball programs in the country.  We are very lucky to have someone join our staff with her pedigree, desire, and love for the game.”

After college, Achter played professionally for one season with Palaio Faliro in Athens, Greece.  She returned to Bowling Green in the winter of 2009 and was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach.  This past season, Achter was a volunteer assistant coach at Pike Delta York High School in Delta, Ohio, and also was a graduate assistant in the Bowling Green athletics development office.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to work in such a well respected program,” Achter said.  “Coach Crowley is a very highly regarded coach, and I am thankful for the chance to work along side him and his excellent staff.”

Achter joins Jesse Fleming and Priscilla Edwards on the women’s basketball staff.

St. Bonaventure reached the Women’s National Invitation Tournament each of the past two seasons, recording 23 wins both years.  The Bonnies will welcome back three starters this fall.
