Buffalo Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Scott Loffler today announced the team has signed Head Coach and General Manager Darris Kilgour to a three-year contract extension. The new deal will keep Kilgour in Buffalo through the 2013 NLL season.

Since being named the sixth head coach in franchise history on July 18, 2002, Kilgour has led the Bandits to eight consecutive playoff appearances – including an NLL Championship in 2008. Kilgour has compiled a regular season record of 80-48 in Buffalo, along with a 10-7 record in the postseason. Kilgour’s 12-win season in 2003 is the most in franchise history, and the feat earned him 2003 NLL Coach of the Year honors.

“We are extremely happy and excited to have Darris back for three more years,” said Loffler. “Darris is a polarizing individual who has meant a lot to this organization for many years both on and off the field. We are confident his return will contribute to bringing another championship back to Buffalo.”

This past season, Kilgour reached a milestone on March 12 in Toronto when he won his 94th career game, surpassing the legendary Les Bartley to become the NLL’s all-time leader in coaching wins. Kilgour was inducted into the NLL Hall of Fame in 2007, and he will be inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame this October along with his brother, Rich.

Kilgour began his coaching career with the Washington Power from 2000-2002, finishing with an 18-12 record and taking the Power into the semi-finals both seasons.

Kilgour played with the Bandits from 1992-99, and was a major contributor in each of Buffalo’s three Major Indoor Lacrosse League Championships. He continues to ranks among the Bandits’ all-time leaders in every major statistical category.

A three-time MILL/NLL All-Pro as a player, Kilgour was the first ever draft choice of the Bandits in 1992. The Niagara Falls, NY native was a two-time All-American lacrosse player at Niagara Wheatfield High School.
