Sunday was another busy day for the Buffalo Bills as the team signed two new players at the expense of another pair who survived Saturday’s cut-down day. Tight end J.P. Foschi and defensive back Dominque Harris were on the team when they went to bed Saturday night but woke up to the bad news they’d need to seek employment elsewhere.
Signed in their place were tight end David Martin and offensive guard Kraig Urbik.
Martin is an eight-year veteran who’s spent the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He played for Green Bay during this first six years of his career. He’ll back up starter Jonathan Stupar. Shawn Nelson will miss the first four games of the season after being suspended last month.
Martin has 152 receptions for 1,519 yards and 14 touchdowns for his career. He had 31 catches with Miami last year.
The team was also awarded Urbik off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a third round draft pick by Pittsburgh last year. He joins undrafted free agent Cordaro Howard to form the Bills’ interior offensive line depth.
Buffalo also used up four of the eight allotted spots for their practice squad as of Sunday evening: running back Joique Bell and Rodney Ferguson as well as offensive lineman Jason Watkins and wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt. If Harris goes unclaimed he’ll almost certainly be assigned to the squad.
The following players were cut on Saturday: QB Levi Brown , RB Joique Bell , RB Chad Simpson, RB Andre Anderson, FB Rodney Ferguson , WR James Hardy, WR Chad Jackson, WR Naaman Roosevelt , TE Derek Schouman (waived/injured), TE Andrew George , OT Kirk Chambers, OT Nick Hennessey, OG Andre Ramsey, OG Jason Watkins , C Sean Allen, C Christian Gaddis, DE Rashaad Duncan , ILB Donovan Woods , CB Ellis Lankster and CB Lydell Sargeant.
You can expect the Bills to make a few more roster moves early this week. At present time they have 10 linebackers on the current roster as well as seven defensive linemen, but only have two active tight ends.
