Six Bengals scored in double-figures as Buffalo State (1-0) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat host Hobart (1-2), 80-74, in the season opener this evening.
Sophomore Roderick Epps led the Bengals with 18 points and added five assists and three steals. Jake Simmons had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony Hamer had 11 points and a career-best nine assists. Anyar Majak, Seth Runge and Brad Doyley netted 10 points apiece.
Buffalo State trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and found itself down 43-35 at the intermission. The Bengals scored the first eight points of the second half, and then took the lead for good at 51-50 with 11:33 remaining. The Bengals shot 46-percent from the field, and outscored the Statesmen, 21-12 from 3-point range.
Buffalo State will open its home schedule on Saturday at 7 p.m. when Nazareth visits the Sports Arena.
