The University at Buffalo football team wrapped up its fall camp on Thursday night with a final “scenario” type scrimmage as it readies itself for the home opener versus Rhode Island next Thursday night at 7 pm at UB Stadium.

Head coach Jeff Quinn announced the team’s two deep following practice, which included naming sophomore quarterback Jerry Davis (Fresno, CA/Edison) as the team’s starter. In all, seven former Western New York standouts ¬– including three offensive linemen – are slated to start for the Bulls against the Rams in the opener.

“I was very pleased, it went very smoothly,” said Quinn of his team’s final preparations. “It’s the first time they had seen a wide range of different scenarios that the game presents and that’s what I wanted to put our kids through.

“It was more mental than physical and I was able to evaluate taking guys out and simulating if a guy does down what happens in special teams, what happens on offense, who’s backing him up? I certainly didn’t want to be looking around the sideline for that person, that player was already locked in, which was good to see,” said Quinn. “At the end of the day for our last preseason practice I feel really good about where our football team is right now.”
