Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd was a key factor in saving the Buffalo Bills from losing a game last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and quite possibly their season with a pair of interceptions, including one that directly led to the Bills winning in overtime, 19-16.
His efforts didn’t go unnoticed by the league.
The NFL handed out its weekly awards and Byrd was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.
Regarded as one of the more talented players on the team, Byrd is evolving into one of the game’s best free safeties. In 52 career games Byrd now has 16 interceptions to go with eight forced fumbles and is one of the team’s most sure tacklers.
He’s also scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season and with a commitment seemingly in place to keep their core of talent, Byrd is in line for a monster payday— one that’s becoming very much deserved.
In other words, he’s the anti Donte Whitner.
