The Canisius College men’s basketball will travel north on the I-190 Sunday afternoon to meet long-time rival Niagara in the Gallagher Center. The Golden Griffins and Purple Eagles will tipoff the 172nd all-time meeting at 2 p.m., and the game can be seen live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. The Canisius radio broadcast will be available through AM-1400 (WWWS) in Buffalo and the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network on GoGriffs.com, with Jay Moran and Mike Scott on the call.
Canisius is 15-9 overall and 8-5 in league play after falling to Manhattan on the road Feb. 7. The Griffs are led by junior guard Billy Baron, who is averaging 16.3 points and a MAAC-best 5.5 assists per game. The Blue and Gold rank second nationally with 9.5 3-point field goals per game, and senior Isaac Sosa ranks 11th nationally with his 3.1 trifectas per outing. The Griffs are traveling to Niagara’s Gallagher Center in search of their first road win in this series since Nov. 30, 2002 – a span of nine games.
Niagara sits atop the MAAC standings with its 14-10 overall record and its 10-3 mark in MAAC play. The Purple Eagles have dropped two straight and start Sunday’s game having played four-straight contests decided by four points or less, including their 66-65 win over the Griffs Jan. 27 in the Koessler Athletic Center. Antoine Mason leads the Niagara scoring attack with his 18.9 points per game.
