Classes for nine public schools joining Section VI football

Posted on May 25, 2010 by Patrick Moran

WNY High School SportsAs we know by now, after more than a century of Buffalo Public high school football, the Harvard Cup is no more.  The nine teams that comprised the long-standing league has officially disbanded and joined Section VI.

While it’s debatable how long it will take before city schools can become competitive against the biggest and best football programs Western New York has to offer, we now know exactly what division where each of the schools will be placed.

Riverside has dominated public school football in recent years but will have its work cut out from them in an excruciating tough Class AA North division that includes Williamsville North and defending state champion North Tonawanda.  Burgard is the other public school most think can compete with the bigger Section VI programs. They’ll be in Class B Central with Section VI champion Cheektowaga, among others.

Here’s a breakdown of where each public school will fall in regards to class and division.  Emerson and daVinci are part of the Hutch Tech team.  Buffalo Performing Arts teams up with Bennett.

Class AA North: Lafayette, Hutch Tech, and Riverside.

Class AA South: Bennett.

Class A North: McKinley.

Class B Central: South Park, Burgard, East.

Class C North:  Grover Cleveland.

Growing up in the BPHS system I have little clue about what these ‘classes’ constitute… What are the school size breakdowns for each?
