Flynn experiences rare back to back wins

Posted on February 1, 2010 by Beth Hanigan

There are many catch phrases that can describe the Minnesota Timberwolves. “Back-to-back winners” is not typically one of them.  But that wasn’t the case over the weekend as Western New York native Jonny Flynn and his Wolves pulled off a pair of victories.

On Friday the Wolves took on the Los Angeles Clippers at the Target Center in Minnesota. Flynn who has streaky throughout his rookie season, came through strong with 19 points, 8 assists as his team went on to the 111-97 win.  In a rare show of dominance, Minnesota at one time led by as much as 23 points, the largest they’ve seen all season.

Energized by the win against the Clippers, the Timberwolves went into Sunday night’s game against the New York Knicks hopeful for redemption from the embarrassing meeting at Madison Square Garden just days earlier. The Wolves walked away last night with a 112-91 win.

Flynn, saw notably less playing time, clocking only 23 minutes and scoring just six points. However, he contribute in an all-around fashion, posting eight  rebounds and eight assists though, showing he’s starting to get the big picture when it comes to Timberwolves Head Coach Kurt Rambis’ game plan… move the ball and get it to the hoop regardless of who actually scores.

The eight rebounds were a career-high for the Niagara Falls rookie, while the eight assists were just one off his season-best.

Flynn and his teammates have plenty of time to practice and relax before they take the court next against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Could Flynn experience the first three-game winning streak of his brief NBA career?
