Sophomore standout Juan’ya Green collected his second MAAC Player of the Week award of the season when he was named co-player of the week on Monday.
Green, who earned his first career MAAC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 7, shared this week’s accolades with Siena’s Evan Hymes.
Green averaged 14 points per game, 9.5 assists per game and 7 rebounds per game while setting a career-high in rebounds and tying career-highs in assists, steals and blocks as the Niagara Purple Eagles extended their conference win streak to nine games with wins at Siena and Canisius. Green was once again a pivotal force for the Purple Eagles in two tough road wins. Green played arguably his best all-around game as a Purple Eagle in the win at Siena on Jan. 25.
Green notched his first career double-double with 19 points while tying a career-best 11 assists and had one turnover in 40 minutes, and his career-high nine rebounds left him one board shy of the program’s second ever triple-double. Green also tied a career-high with two blocks. He ended the game going 4-for-4 at the line, including getting a steal, to help Niagara to a 78-69 win.
Green helped the Purple Eagles erase a 10-point second half deficit to come away with a dramatic win at Canisius on Sunday. Green had the assist on the game-winning 3-pointer in the 66-65 win, played in front of a sold out crowd on ESPN3. Green’s game-high eighth assist occurred on the final play of the game with four seconds left. Green had a game-high five steals which tied a career best, scored nine points and added five rebounds.
Niagara, which sits in first place with a 9-1 MAAC record, hosts the Iona Gaels on Thursday in the MAAC National Game of the Week airing live on ESPN3 at 7 p.m.
