Most fans woke up Sunday morning to learn the NHL lockout was finally over. Sunday evening, we’re starting to learn how this abbreviated season will play out.
Canadian sports journalist Elliotte Freidman tweets that the league sent out a memo to every team, indicating that the league will begin training camp next Saturday and possibly even not until Monday, and that the league will be playing a 48-game season in 2013.
Freidman’s tweet also reveals that the season will commence on Saturday January 19.
There’s no official word yet on how the schedule will work and who teams will play. Rumors are circulating that the league will play only games within their own conference this year. There will also be more games condensed as players are preparing to play in excess of three games per week.
More of that information should become available tomorrow and we’ll update you as soon as we know, but now we know when the season starts and how many games will be played.
Stay tuned.
