Just a few quick Buffalo Sabres notes from various reports as the team prepares to return to action tonight in New Jersey against the Devils.
Patrick Lalime is suffering from appendicitis and will not make the trip with the team. Ryan Miller, still nursing a lower body injury will serve as the backup to starter Jhonas Enroth. In his last start Saturday in Toronto, Enroth got his first career NHL win in a shootout, 3-2. Enroth will likely also start Thursday on the road against the New York Rangers before Lindy Ruff hopes Miller is able to return when Buffalo hosts Washington on Saturday night.
Defensemen Craig Rivet missed his third straight practice Tuesday while battling the flu is all-cut-certain to be out of the lineup tonight. Drew Stafford (shoulder) and Nathan Gerbe (broken jaw) both skated for some time on Tuesday, but neither are close to returning to the lineup.
Meanwhile, Ruff will be coaching in his1,000th career game, all with Buffalo, tonight when the Sabres take the ice. Ruff will be the first coach ever in the NHFL to coach his first 1,000 games with the same team and will tie Roger Nielson for 17th place on the all-time list.
