Report: NFL Activities Could Start Today

  • Posted on July 25, 2011 at 10:13 am

nfl_lockout-224x3002This is the NFL gospel according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Over the past hour, Schefter has tweeted several post-lockout details where the action will actually commence this afternoon.  The following is a reprint of his words, so if he turns out to be wrong— don’t kill the messenger.

♦ Teams can sign their free agents this afternoon. Teams can begin talking to UFAs this afternoon. Teams can sign UFAs tomorrow at noon.

♦ Teams can begin talking trades this afternoon. Any trade made would not become official until Saturday.

♦ Teams can begin signing UFAs tomorrow at noon. Those contracts would not take effect until Aug 2.

The Daily Links – April 22, 2011

  • Posted on April 22, 2011 at 6:30 am

Daily-Links-LogoDid former Buffalo Bills great Andre Reed accidently tip the team’s hand about wanting to select Charlie Ponder with their second draft pick?

Will it matter? Adam Schefter thinks both Ponder and Andy Dalton will likely get selected in the first round.

Buffalo Bills scouts talk about Von Miller and Marcell Dareus.  They also talk about a number of other prospects, with video clips all over the page.

Joe Buscaglia from WGR has his latest mock draft published.  Going with the majority of opinion of late, he selects Von Miller to Buffalo with the third overall pick.

Reports vary regarding Jared Gaither

  • Posted on May 8, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Jared GaitherESPN’s Adam Schefter got the ball rolling Friday when he reported that the Buffalo Bills were interested in Jared Gaither, the Ravens could trade him before the season and Buffalo were the front runners as the destination.

“NFL sources still expect Ravens OT Jared Gaither to be traded before season and Bills are most likely destination – they want him.” Schefter tweeted.

A mere 24 hours later, Gaither talk has picked up steam. A newer, obscure website “Bills Beat” reported that the sides have already agreed to a deal in principle pending a contract extension for Gaither.

I spoke, via email to Schefter moments ago and he told me the report is not true.

“Not happening now,” Schefter told me. “Maybe one day in future, but not now.”

Schefter reiterated that that Gaither could be moved before the season starts and the Bills are clearly very interested in acquiring him, but it happening is anything but imminent… at least at this time.

That could change.

Schefter: Buffalo Bills want Gaither

  • Posted on May 7, 2010 at 1:43 pm

jared gaitherESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing NFL sources, is reporting via Twitter that the Baltimore Ravens are still expected to trade OT Jared Gaither prior to the start of the season – and that the Buffalo Bills are the leading suitor.

Schefter’s tweet in full: “NFL sources still expect Ravens OT Jared Gaither to be traded before season and Bills are most likely destination – they want him.”

Schefter’s ESPN cohort, Tim Graham, has embellished the report, claiming that the Bills have been “aggressively pursuing Gaither behind the scenes.”

Buffalo’s roster is currently devoid of top talent at the tackle position, and as it stands right now, Demetrius Bell, Jamon Meredith, Jason Watkins and rookie Ed Wang would all stand at least a small chance of being the opening-day starter at left tackle. Bell, thanks to his eight starts on the left side, is the most experienced option among that group.

Reports circulated prior to the 2010 NFL Draft that the Ravens were seeking a second-round pick for the 6′9″, 330-pound Gaither, whom the team has moved to right tackle to make way for Michael Oher on the blind side. Gaither had been Baltimore’s left tackle for the past two seasons. It’s unclear what sort of compensation they are seeking now.

Gaither, 24, a restricted free agent, was tendered at the first-round level in March. Whichever team acquires him will need to get a contract extension in place for him as well.

Adam Schefter tells me no deal signed for Edwards, yet

  • Posted on March 16, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I just got the chance to ask Adam Schefter directly about Dwan Edwards and according to the ESPN Insider, he reported that  Edwards has reached an agreement with the Bills but has not signed a contract.  Given how often he breaks transactions in the league it’s not far-fetched for some reporters and websites to misuse his words, so Schefter was gracious enough to make them crystal clear with me.

“He hasn’t signed, Patrick. I reported he reached agreement.” Schefter told me directly in an email.

“Only way he doesn’t play for Bills this season is if something unexpected happens at the last minute. But I’m fully expecting Edwards to be a Bill.”

BSD Exclusive: Adam Schefter Interview

  • Posted on January 13, 2010 at 11:43 am

A few nights ago I reported that Bill Cowher will not be coaching in Buffalo based on a public tweet by ESPN-NFL insider Adam Schefter, and a simple direct message from him that followed.

For that, I was ripped on message boards and comments everywhere and upon reflection, deservedly so.  Schefter is not a source but a reporter, and erroneously I originally masked his private comment to me as a source. Lesson learned.

People were/are understandably pessimistic about Schefter’s statement, mainly because he didn’t base it on a source.

Since then I’ve sought clarification.  After today I’ve found it.
