  • Posted on January 8, 2012 at 11:52 am

Andre ReedThe 15 modern-era finalists were revealed for the National Football League 2012 Hall of Fame class on Saturday and once again, former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed made the cut.  The class will be announced live on February 4; the day before the Super Bowl.

This is the sixth consecutive Reed has made it to the Finalists round. If Reed finally gets in, he’d be the ninth Bills to be enshrined in Canton, joining Joe DeLamielleure, Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, Billy Shaw, O.J. Simpson, Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas, and Ralph Wilson, Jr.

Reed is one of three wide receivers to make it this far, joining Chris Carter (fifth straight year as a finalist) and Tim Brown (third) among the final 15 from the modern era.

Thursday’s “Did You Know”

  • Posted on May 19, 2011 at 10:00 am

BSD Did You KnowIf you were around for Buffalo Bills football in the mid-1980’s, it only seemed like the team never won a game on the road.  In reality, their failure to end a road game on the winning side only spanned four seasons.

Did you know that from the end of 1983 until the mid-point of ‘86, the Bills lost a mind-blowing 22 consecutive games on the road.  Beginning with a loss at Atlanta to end the ‘83 season and lasting until November 30, 1986 when they defeated Kansas City, 17-14, Buffalo was on the losing end of every road contest.

Andre Reed finally helped end the losing streak, catching a pair of touchdowns from Jim Kelly.

Daily-Links-LogoDid former Buffalo Bills great Andre Reed accidently tip the team’s hand about wanting to select Charlie Ponder with their second draft pick?

Will it matter? Adam Schefter thinks both Ponder and Andy Dalton will likely get selected in the first round.

Buffalo Bills scouts talk about Von Miller and Marcell Dareus.  They also talk about a number of other prospects, with video clips all over the page.

Joe Buscaglia from WGR has his latest mock draft published.  Going with the majority of opinion of late, he selects Von Miller to Buffalo with the third overall pick.

Andre Reed Gets Hall of Fame Snub Yet Again

  • Posted on February 5, 2011 at 7:31 pm

NFL Hall of Fame LogoOn September 22, 1985 at was then called Rich Stadium, Buffalo Bills quarterback Vince Ferragamo dropped back against the New England Patriots and looked to the left side of the field.  He threw the ball to a cutting receiver over the middle of the end zone.  Playing in his third career game as a rookie, Andre Reed corralled the ball that was a bit high into his reliable hands for his first NFL touchdown.

He’d go to catch 86 more touchdowns; 85 of them as a member of the Buffalo Bills.  He’d also end up with franchise records of 941 receptions and 13,198 yards for his 15-year Buffalo career.  Despite a career rivaled by few receivers in the history of the league— Andre Reed is still not a NFL Hall of Famer.

The National Football League announced its 2011 Hall of Fame class and for fifth consecutive year as a finalist, Reed didn’t make the final cut to gain induction.

The NFL Hall of Fame selection committee met for nearly seven and a half hours today to decide the fate for the 15 finalists.  Reed’s case was presented by Buffalo News reporter Mark Gaughan.

Reed made the first cut from 15 down to 10 but was eliminated along with Curtis Martin, Cortez Kennedy, Willie Roaf and Dermontti Dawson when the cut went from 10 to 5.

The 2011 class consists of Deion Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Shannon Sharpe, Ed Sabol, Richard Dent, Chris Hanbuger and Les Ritcher.

Will Andre Reed Get Call From The Hall?

  • Posted on February 5, 2011 at 5:00 am

Andre ReedAndre Reed will be waiting by the phone at approximately 7pm tonight to find out if he’ll be enshrined into the NFL Hall of Fame Class of 2011.  This is Reed’s fifth time as a finalist and sixth year of eligibility.

Reed is the Bills all-time leader in receptions (941), receiving yards (13,198) and receiving touchdowns (86) during his 15-year Buffalo career that saw him earn seven Pro Bowl nods. He also played one season in Washington, catching just 10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

At least one national reporter thinks Reed’s time is coming sooner than later.

Andre Reed Goes “Over The Middle”

  • Posted on December 16, 2010 at 5:00 am

Andre Reed OTMFormer Buffalo Bills receiver and future Hall of Famer Andre Reed remains a busy man these days.  When he’s not on the golf course, he’s tirelessly working with the multiple charities he’s become hands-on involved with through the years.

One of those charities is called “The Second Mile”, a nonprofit organization that serves youths in Pennsylvania.  According to their mission statement, the foundation is “committed to helping young people achieve their potential as individuals and as community members and providing education and support for their parents and youth service professionals.”

Reed is also set to launch a brand new product; an all-purpose sauce that’s called “Over the Middle.”

Reed Among 26 NFL Hall of Fame Semifinalists

  • Posted on November 28, 2010 at 11:35 am

Andre Reed

The National Football League announced its 25 semifinalists for the 2011 Hall of Fame class and as all Buffalo Bills fans expected, Andre Reed is on the list.

Unfortunately a pair of Bills’ greats hoping to make the list were excluded.  Special team’s great Steve Tasker and linebacker Darryl Talley failed to make the cut down to the final 25.

Cornelius Bennett, Kent Hull and Fred Smerlas were the other Bills among the 114 preliminary nominees who didn’t make it down to the 25 semi-finalists.

Reed narrowly missed entry to the Hall last year, making it all the way to the final 10 before the list was cut down to the five enshrines. This is the fifth consecutive year Reed is among the final 25 up for consideration.

Top 20 Bills All-Time Draft Picks: Andre Reed (#1)

  • Posted on June 25, 2010 at 12:05 am

Andre ReedWe’ve counted down our list of the best 20 Buffalo Bills draft picks of all-time over the past few weeks.  Take note- this is not a rundown of the best 20 players.  Where the player was drafted is often a major factor in determining his value and ranking.  The countdown has finally concluded and we’re ready to announce the team’s best draft pick ever, Andre Reed.)

Andre Reed, Wide Receiver (4th round pick, 86th overall in 1985 draft)

If we were to tell you that Andre Reed was the 13th overall pick of the 1985 NFL draft, you’d have to consider him a steal.  But that would be a lie.  Reed wasn’t the 13th selection of the draft—he was the 13th RECEIVER to be picked in the draft.

One slot ahead of him with the 85th overall pick in the fourth round, the Minnesota Vikings drafted wide receiver Buster Rhymes— and we’re not talking about the rapper, either.

Did You Know: Bills 1,000 yard receivers are rare

  • Posted on June 17, 2010 at 9:00 am

Did You Know LogoSince their inception, the Buffalo Bills have only had someone go over 1,000 yards receiving in a season 16 times.

Did you know that only two times have the Bills had a pair of 1,000-yard receivers in the same season? Most recently it was done by Eric Moulds (1,292) and Peerless Price (1,252) in 2002.  The other time was back in 1991 when both Andre Reed (1,113) and James Lofton (1,072) accomplished the milestone.

Of the 16 times someone has went over 1,000, Reed and Moulds have both done it four times.  Lee Evans and Frank Lewis have done it twice each.  Price, Lofton, Elbert Dubenion and Marlon Briscoe have each done it once.

Reed barely misses Hall of Fame election

  • Posted on February 6, 2010 at 5:52 pm

The announcement for the NFL Hall of Fame class for 2010 was just announced.  As expected, Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith were elected.  As most also anticipated, Andre Reed was not.

Joining Smith and Rice in this year’s class is Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little and John Randle.

Most didn’t think Reed would get in this year because of the presence of Chris Carter and Tim Brown.  The good news for Reed is that he outlasted either receiver.  Both Carter and Brown were eliminated from consideration when the cut down went from 15 finalists to 10.  Reed lasted until the final cut down to five. It’s father than he’s made it in four years.

Will Andre Reed get the call from the ‘Hall’?

  • Posted on February 5, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Lynn Swann. Steve Largent. Art Monk. Michael Irvin. All NFL wide receivers with their very own shrines on the hallowed walls of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sport’s most distinguished fraternity has been very selective in opening their gates to wide receivers. Only 20 pass-catchers are immortalized in Canton, the smallest number of any offensive position not counting tight ends.

Some classes are remembered for same team composition. Others are remembered for honoring bitter rivals. With Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Tim Brown and Andre Reed on the ballot for the 2010 class, a wide out breakthrough may finally be upon us.

Reed, Tasker Make Final 25 List for NFL HOF

  • Posted on November 28, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Former Buffalo Bills greats Andre Reed and Steve Tasker were among the 25 semifinalists announced today for induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. They were selected from a list of 131 preliminary nominees.

The list of 25 semifinalists will be reduced by mail ballot to 15 modern-era candidates. That will be announced on January 7, 2010. The Class of 2010 will be selected and announced on February 6, 2010- the day before Super Bowl XLIV.

According to the official Hall of Fame website, although there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s current ground rules do stipulate that between four and seven new members will be selected each year. No more than five modern-era nominees can be elected in a given year and a class of six or seven enshrines can only be achieved if one or both senior nominees are elected.
