Chad Kelly Visiting Bama, Clemson; Decision Could Come Soon

Chad KellySt. Joe’s high school quarterback Chad Kelly is in Alabama on Monday, visiting the school and its famous head football coach, Nick Saban.  The highly recruited nephew of former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly,  Chad will also visit Clemson this week and hopes to make a college decision within the next month.

According to a source, the two schools are the clear frontrunners to land Kelly’s services, with Purdue also in the race as a dark horse.

Chad’s uncle has accompanied him on the trip to Alabama.

Kelly has received scholarship offers from at least a dozen schools; a list that includes Alabama, University at Buffalo, Cincinnati, Clemson, Connecticut, Florida State, Louisville, Michigan State, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.

ESPN2 to televise UB/Bowling Green tonight

pettigrew-20091003fb-393wThe University at Buffalo football team is set to play Bowling Green on Tuesday night at UB Stadium in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2.

“I feel really good about our football team, even though we lost the last ball game,” said head coach Turner Gill. “I feel especially good about our players and how they reacted with mental toughness and physical toughness after the game and during practice this week.”

The Bulls (3-5, 1-3 MAC) are coming off a heart-breaking 34-31 overtime loss to the Western Michigan Broncos.

Kats football shuts out Milford Academy

The Erie Community College football team played their stingiest defensive game of the season Saturday afternoon defeating Milford Academy 18-0.

In front of 250 cold fans at Jim Ball Stadium, the Kats defense held the high-flying Falcons to 156 total yards and only 43 yards passing in cold and gusty conditions.

The Kats scored the only points of the first half when Zedric Joseph (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach) scored on a six-yard run with just 44 seconds left in the first half.  The ensuing PAT snap was bad, keeping the score 6-0 at halftime.

William Paterson Blows by Football, 33-7

Wet weather and wind gusts in excess of 40 miles-per-hour helped ground both offensive attacks, but big plays on defense and special teams catapulted William Paterson (4-4/3-4) to a 33-7 win over host Buffalo State (1-7/1-6) in an NJAC contest Saturday at Coyer Field.

The Pioneers pulled away, scoring 26 points in the final 17:33 of the game and limited Buffalo State to just 52 yards of total offense.

Matt Marshall (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City) managed the Pioneers’ offense, going 11 for 22 for 136 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Marcus McKinney (Paterson, NJ/JFK) led the ground attack with 22 carries for 74 yards and two scores, and Dawys German (N. Arlington, NJ/N. Arlington) had 13 carries for 64 yards and a score. Keith Sayball (Milford, CT/Foran) anchored the Paterson defense with nine tackles and two sacks.

Buff State Football: Rowan Rolls, 57-7

Rowan (6-1/5-1) scored on the second play from scrimmage and limited Buffalo State (1-6/1-5) to just 44 yards of total offense, cruising to a 57-7 victory over visiting in an NJAC contest today at John Page Field.

The Profs racked up 422 yards of offense and forced the Bengals to minus-32 net rushing yards on the day and capitalized on a 30-point second quarter to race to the win. Rowan has scored 252 points in its last four games.

Ryan Leafy led a balanced Rowan attack with 10 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Frank Wilczynski was 9 of 16 for 119 yards and a touchdown and also had seven rushes for 58 yards and scored once on the ground.
