Buffalo Bills’ All-Decay Team

  • Posted on December 14, 2009 at 9:11 am

Erik Flowers Buffalo Sports DailyLast week Buffalo Sports Daily was graced by the Buffalo Bills’ All-Decade Team.

But it’s been such a decade of shame that their story may be better told by their screw-ups. So to follow up the All-Decade Team, here is the Bills’ All-Decay Team.

Every franchise has its busts, but few can put together a complete lineup of failures who came with so much promise. These aren’t just any scrubs; they’re guys who, based on what was invested in them, were counted on to make the team respectable at least. The All-Decay Team includes five first-round draft picks, four second-rounders and four third-rounders — not including picks used to trade up for a couple of them. Add in the free agents, and there’s enough money down the drain to feed some countries for a year.

You’ve seen the good, but there’s much more bad and ugly:

Fewell’s Philsophy: “Play Like Hell & Win”

  • Posted on November 17, 2009 at 10:29 pm

“Play like hell and win.”

Those are the only five words new interim head coach Perry Fewell needed to muster when asked what his philosophy would be now after taking over for Dick Jauron today.

Fewell was introduced as the new interim head coach tonight at a makeshift press conference.  One trait he definitely shares with the now former coach is his dislike for saying too much.   Immediately showing his Elusiveness, Fewell refused to provide any details as to what he and owner Ralph Wilson discussed today other than he accepted the position as interim head coach.

No More Mr. Nice Guy– More Changes To Come?

  • Posted on November 17, 2009 at 5:27 pm

He’ll go down as one of the nicest guys to ever walk a Buffalo Bills sideline. Unfortunately for Dick Jauron, he’ll also be remembered as one of the worst, and least popular coach’s in franchise history.

Ralph Wilson mercifully put an end to masses of fan’s wrath Tuesday afternoon with the announcement that Jauron has been fired. Perry Fewell will take over as the interim head coach according to many outlets, including Tim Graham from ESPN.

Ralph Wilson released the following statement Tuesday afternoon.

Breaking News: Dick Jauron Gets Fired

  • Posted on November 17, 2009 at 3:59 pm

71465292RS401_New_York_JetsThe Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Dick Jauron. NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora had the story first via Twitter.

Ralph Wilson released the following statement Tuesday afternoon.

“I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties as our head coach, effectively immediately,” said Wilson in a team statement. “I have tremendous respect for Dick and thank him for all of his efforts during these past four years. While this was a very difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville.”

Jauron finishes his career in Buffalo with a 24-33 record.

We will have plenty more all day on this breaking news as we learn more details.   NFL.com is reporting Perry Fewell will be named interim coach, but this hasn’t been confirmed

**UPDATE** According to ESPN.com writer and friend to Buffalo Sports Daily, Tim Graham, it will be Perry Fewll who takes over.

Flim Session: Titans 41, Bills 17

  • Posted on November 16, 2009 at 4:17 pm

Call this ripping the band-aid off quickly, or pinching your nose to avoid the bad taste. I typically run film reviews on Tuesdays, but I couldn’t force myself to watch a second of Buffalo Bills football on an otherwise valuable Monday evening. So this is the short, get-it-over-with-quickly version of what we usually do on Tuesdays. I sincerely doubt many of you will mind, given the sad state of affairs that was the Bills’ 41-17 loss yesterday to the Tennessee Titans.

To discuss (briefly): Trent Edwards and the quarterbacks, Alex Van Pelt, the offensive line, John McCargo, the linebackers, Jairus Byrd and Dick Jauron.

Jauron Hints At Changes In Presser

  • Posted on November 16, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Dick Jauron met with the media this afternoon, a day after the Buffalo Bills 41-17 fiasco in Tennessee that saw them give up 24 unanswered fourth quarter points.

On the injury front, Demetrius Bell suffered a knee injury yesterday and Ashton Youboty left with a high ankle sprain.

Bell will see a doctor again today after seeing the team’s physician yesterday, but Jauron sounded anything but assured he‘d back soon.

“We’re not optimistic about that at this point.” Jauron said., who also indicated they’ll bring in some free agents to work out this week.

Five ways Dick Jauron can save his job

  • Posted on November 11, 2009 at 11:56 am

Before the 2008 NFL regular season ended – which, for the Buffalo Bills and even-then-embattled coach Dick Jauron, came in particularly brutal fashion – Bills fans across the nation began calling for a change at head coach. When their wish was not granted in late December of 2008, the countdown was officially on. Jauron’s 2009 coaching seat was hot from the moment owner Ralph Wilson chose to keep him days after the close of the 2008 season, and after a 3-5 start in ‘09, Jauron’s seat remains one of the hottest in the NFL.

There are websites, billboards and petitions dedicated to Jauron’s ouster. As with any lingering desire, aspects of the campaign have reached irrational levels in some circles. No matter what happens over the second half of this season, selling Jauron and the current regime of decision-makers at One Bills Drive to an understandably impatient fan base next season could prove difficult. Still, fans are only part of the rationale behind any given football decision, and even with all of the angst directed towards Jauron from every angle, there are ways that he can survive the 2009 season in Buffalo.

Taboo Time: Let’s Give Jauron Some Credit

  • Posted on October 26, 2009 at 11:29 am

While the Buffalo Bills offense is hardly a juggernaut , the defense is starting to earn themselves quite the reputation.  Their “bend but don’t break” philosophy is working, in large part because they’re  extremely opportunistic.

The Bills have picked off nine passes in the past two games.  They give up yards in piles, especially in the running game.  But they seem to come up with a big stop when they need it most.

Bills QB Fitzpatrick to start Week 8 vs. Houston

  • Posted on October 26, 2009 at 9:30 am

In his routine Monday morning press conference, Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron confirmed that starting quarterback Trent Edwards will miss his second straight start as he continues to recover from the head injury he sustained in a Week 6 victory over the New York Jets.  With Edwards sidelined for another week, Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his second start at quarterback in a Bills uniform.

Jauron Isn’t Thinking About Billboard

  • Posted on October 19, 2009 at 12:16 pm

The Buffalo Bills overtime victory over the Jets Sunday did little in the way of influencing FireDickJauron.wordpress.com creator Ryan Abshagen’s thinking. As scheduled, the billboard, paid for by its site’s donations went up for anyone driving the Interstate-190 South to see at exactly 12:01am this morning.

The advertisement, which encourages Bills owner Ralph Wilson to “clean house” by firing head coach Dick Jauron along with Tom Modrak and John Guy, will flash up to 5,000 times per day for the next week. Site organizers are still soliciting donations in hopes of either extending the life of the billboard, or to add another one.
Multiple recent reports by local and national media saw the billboard story pick up a lot of steam, especially following the Cleveland debacle last week.

Time not yet ripe for Jauron firing in Buffalo

  • Posted on October 5, 2009 at 7:20 pm

I’ve got to say this right at the top: I fully embraced the likelihood that I’d be writing about the inevitability of Dick Jauron being fired as head coach of the Buffalo Bills at some point this season. After perhaps the second-worst loss of Jauron’s 52-games-and-counting tenure as Bills head coach (nothing will ever top their 56-10 home loss to New England in ‘07), that likelihood has essentially become reality. Buffalo’s 38-10 drubbing at the hands of the Miami Dolphins was that bad.

But I’d be lying if I said I thought I’d be writing this post after Week 4. I didn’t want to address this hot-button issue until I felt that Jauron’s firing was more eventuality than possibility. We, and the Bills, are now at that point.

The Fire Jauron Movement is Close to Hastening

  • Posted on October 1, 2009 at 10:21 pm

While the greater part of fans… and a portion of the media would love to quicken the “Fire Dick Jauron” movement, there’s nothing from One Bills Drive suggesting a change is imminent.

That may change however should the Buffalo Bills drop Sunday’s game to their winless, divisional rival Miami Dolphins.

Jauron may play clueless on the sidelines and always occasionally at press conferences, but he’s not a mindless man. A loss to Miami all but eliminates Buffalo from serious playoff contention at just the quarter point of the season. At 1-3, The Bills would be 0-2 in their division, after going winless within last season, and right on pace towards carrying out a decade long playoff drought.

Buffalo Bills Notes From Media Day

  • Posted on September 30, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Dick Jauron just completed his Wednesday media day snoozefest press conference. Here are some news and notes to come out of it.

* Demetrius Bell (groin), Kyle Williams(groin), John McCargo (groin), Bryan Scott (ankle), Paul Posluszny (arm) Donte Whitner (thumb) and Leodis McKelvin (leg) all did not participate in practice today. Williams is the lone surprise. He has developed some groin problems. This leaves Marcus Stroud and Spencer Johnson as the only healthy defensive tackles on the roster.

* Shawn Nelson did practice, but on a limited basis (shoulder).

* At practice today Jonathan Scott worked with the first team at left tackle, while Kirk Chambers was at right tackle. It wasn’t declared, but at this moment it look very iffy on if Bell is going to be able to go on Sunday.
