And so it begins. Most deemed it long overdue, but regardless of your feelings on the Dick Jauron tenure, it mercifully concluded this week. The Perry Fewell era commences, albeit an expected brief one, as the Buffalo Bills travel to Jacksonville to take on the surging Jaguars.
If the odds weren’t already stacked against the Bills defensively, the unit suffers another blow as starting defensive tackle Marcus Stroud will miss the game with a knee injury. Kyle Williams is questionable, also with a knee injury, meaning Spencer Johnson and John McCargo will see plenty of time.
Leading tackler Keith Ellison was placed on injured reserve with a thigh injury. Converted safety Bryan Scott will get another start in his place. Last week Scott was constantly overpowered at the point of attack and although he’s a high-effort playing, playing linebacker may be biting off more than he can chew. Nic Harris should see an increased amount of reps.

The Buffalo Sabres handled their business during the Florida swing of their current road trip in handing the Panthers and Lightning losses. Things will get decidedly harder as they conclude their road swing tonight when they take on the New Jersey Devils. Both teams are off to hot starts early in the season; the Devils are 6-3 and the Sabres are 6-1-1.
It’s the first meeting of the season between the squads. They split the four games last season and in what could be a good omen for Buffalo, the road team won every game.
Buffalo won at New Jersey, 4-2 and 2-0 last year while the Devils returned the favor at the HSBC Arena, 3-2 and 5-3.

♦ Don’t be surprised to see newly acquired linebacker Chris Draft starting at weak side linebacker in place of Ashlee Palmer. He’s been taking first team reps and the team was impressed with his performance in limited playing time at New York last week. Draft had a sack, making him the only linebacker on the roster besides Kawika Mitchell to bring down a quarterback this season.
♦ Buffalo will only dress two tight ends for the game as Shawn Nelson has now been officially ruled out of the game. This means Derek Fine will start as usual, but Jonathan Stupar will see extensive action in two tight end sets.
