Giants Pick Up Jamon Meredith

  • Posted on October 18, 2010 at 6:59 pm

Just a few months ago, Jamon Meredith looked to have a shot at a long career with the Buffalo Bills.  In a matter of a few weeks, he’s now playing for this third team since the start of the season.

Meredith was claimed off waivers Monday by the New York Giants, not long after he was sent packing by the Detroit Lions, who claimed Meredith themselves when Buffalo released him on September 29.

The Giants put in a claim on Meredith when Buffalo tossed him aside but he was awarded to Detroit based on their inferior record.  Obviously it didn’t take the lowly Lions long to conclude the same thing the Bills did and released him themselves.

Perry Fewell is the former Bills interim head coach and current Giants defensive coordinator.  You have to wonder if he put in a good word to Tom Coughlin regarding Meredith, a talented 2009 fifth round draft pick who’s allegedly been extremely lazy at practice and has seen his worth ethic questioned.

Bills Cut Jamon Meredith

  • Posted on October 4, 2010 at 4:35 pm

As reported last Friday, Jamon Meredith’s days as a Buffalo Bill were likely nearing an end.  Sources said that Chan Gailey grew tired of Meredith’s inconsistency and promoted rookie Cordaro Howard past him on the team’s depth chart.  After being inactive the past two games, Meredith has been released from the team all together.

The Bills have promoted Mansfield Wrotto to the current active roster, though that may only last a week.  If Shawn Nelson, returning from suspension, is able to play this Sunday, Wrotto probably goes back to the practice squad. If not, he’ll remain on the 53-man roster but be inactive when the Bills take on the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday.

Rookie offensive tackle Ed Wang is still not ready to play.

We don’t know how things will play out regarding the reserve tackles and roster addditions/subtractions over the next few weeks, but one fact we now know for sure is Jamon Meredith is looking for work when just a few months ago he was expected to compete for a starting job.

Jamon MeredithI spoke to a source inside the Buffalo Bills organization, and learned that offensive tackle Jamon Meredith will be deactivated for the second straight week when the Bills take on the New York Jets Sunday afternoon.

According to the source, Cordaro Howard will backup starters Demetrius Bell and Cornell Green at offensive tackle.  Kraig Urbik will be the seventh active linemen and back up both guard positions.

Meredith came into training camp expected to challenge Bell for the starting left tackle spot but has struggled since training camp.  He played sparingly during the Bills first two games but the coaching staff didn’t like what they saw and have since moved Howard past him on the team’s depth chart.

Free Agent Files: Chad Clifton

  • Posted on February 23, 2010 at 9:53 am

(We’re running a series profiling players that could fit into the Buffalo Bills’ plans leading up to the start of free agency on March 5.  Today we look at Green Bay Packers left tackle Chad Clifton)

Like many other positions, the pickings at offensive tackle in free agency appear to be slender.  More so than other spots, the lack of a collective bargaining agreement hinders the talent pool, which would’ve included Jammal Brown and Marcus McNeil among others.

One intriguing veteran for the Buffalo Bills when the shopping spree commences could be Green Bay Packers tackle Chad Clifton.  Let’s not kid ourselves here; Clifton’s best days are long behind him and he’s no lock to stay healthy for a full season at 34 years old. But when he’s on the field he’s one of the more steadfast tackles in the game and could be a quality short term asset for the club.

Bills Hope Meredith Can Stop The Bleeding

  • Posted on October 15, 2009 at 8:53 pm

When the Buffalo Bills embarked on their 2009 campaign some six weeks ago, they did so with Brad Butler starting at right tackle. Butler had previously started 29 games in the NFL, but all came at right guard. Concern lingered about his lack of experience.
About a month later, at least in the eyes of the Bills organization, Butler’s experience would rival Brett Favre.

There will be yet another switcheroo in the Bills offensive line this week when they travel to East Rutherford to take on the New York Jets. It’ll be the fourth different line combination the Bills have started just six games into the season. This time, with Jonathan Scott injured and Kirk Chambers completely ineffective, Jamon Meredith will get his first NFL start at right tackle. Coincidentally, his first snap Sunday will also be the first of his career.
