The Buffalo Sabres close out the preseason tonight when they travel to Air Canada Centre to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7pm. This is the second meeting with the Leafs this preseason. The Sabres won, 3-2 on September 23 at the HSBC Arena. While the game may be meaningless in the standings, don’t tell that to players on the bubble of making the team. For a handful of players, tonight is their last opportunity to showcase why they belong on the opening night roster. The Sabres currently have 27 players on the roster (16 forwards, 9 defensemen and two goaltenders). That means four players on the roster today won’t be when the regular season opens October 3 against Montreal. In all likelihood two forwards and two defensemen will be sent to Portland or released in the coming days.
