On Monday evening MSG Network replayed the final game ever played at the Memorial Auditorium. The Buffalo Sabres defeated Hartford that April 14, 1996 night, 4-1. Older fans watching surely took a nostalgic trip down memory lane while perhaps younger fans got their first look at the way things once were in downtown Buffalo.
What MSG failed to show was the majority of the post-game skate around the rink by many of the team’s all-time greats. Thanks to Sabres blogger Dave Davis for finding this gem on Youtube, which showed the farewell in its entirety.
This game holds special meaning to me, as it was the first professional game I ever got to cover from professional press box, though I recall that “box” was the equivalent of sitting on a scary amusement park ride. Anyway, enjoy the video.
